The Hugo and Pink Flower: Sweet, Tangy, Citrusy and Oh So Good
Sometimes, you crave a beverage that fits the setting or mood – fruity umbrella drinks for sandy island days, bold red blends when exploring the winelands of the world, smooth cognac for after-dinner chats fireside. But there are some cocktails worth craving because they simply suit the individual – go-to favorites that bring a smile to the lips upon first sip. Even better: when the ever-attentive Crystal barkeepers happily present you with your favorite before you’ve even had to ask. There are so many specific preferences and styles, an array of which have been highlighted along our [email protected] virtual journeys.
This Thirsty Thursday, two of Crystal’s own are getting into the mix and sharing the Crystal concoctions they most look forward to while sailing. Tom Wolber, president and CEO and Carmen Roig, senior vice president of marketing and sales, have, of course, traveled the world and developed diverse tastes and appreciation for all kinds of flavors. But even they have their go-to favorites.
Guest mixologist and “The Cocktail Guru” Jonathan Pogash – featured on select Wine & Food Festival sailings – is bringing these shipboard delights to you today. Both infusing the essence of elderflower, yet each its own unique palate, the highlights of this Thirsty Thursday may just become the highlights of your weekend… and even your Crystal journeys to come.
Tom Wolber’s Favorite: The Hugo
Approx. 1 ¼ oz Elderflower Liqueur
2 oz. Sauvignon Blanc (SB Scharl Oststeiermark)
1 ½ oz. Splash Prosecco (instead of Soda)
Mint leaves (10 pcs)
Serve in a large wine glass.
Carmen Roig’s Favorite: Pink Flower
1 ½ oz. Tanqueray Gin
½ oz. St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
¾ oz. lemon juice
2 ½ oz. fresh pink grapefruit juice
½ oz. simple syrup
Shake with ice until cold, then strain into a champagne coupé with a little fresh ice. Garnish with a quarter slice of grapefruit (sliced between pith and fruit to fit onto the glass)
